Skill Development and Capacity Building Cell
As an integral part of academic agenda of the University under the worthy, visionary, skillful guidance, direction, leadership and supervision
of its versatile and knowledge lover Vice-Chancellor Prof. Mool Chand Sharma various activities have been initiated during the short life span of
the university leading to make a mark of its own. Among these activities and initiatives, empowering the students by imparting desired skills is one.
On 17th Sept., 2010, “Empowerment and Capacity Building Initiative” was launched followed by a four weeks short duration programme on Proficiency
Development including honing the skills required to be presentable in what is termed as a personality coupled with effective communication for achieving
the personal and professional goals of the students and learners. Two mentors Dr. Sanjay Tiwari from the Department of Management Studies and Dr. Sanjiv Kumar
from the Department of English organised integrative sessions of PDP (Proficiency Development Programme) guided the students on communication and personality
development in a four weeks programme in the month of September, 2010.
To tap and capitalize the demographic dividend of India, imparting quality education with capacity creation and empowerment is a necessary
pre-condition. The Central University of Haryana with a vision to develop enlightened citizenship for a knowledge society through promotion of
innovation, creative endeavors and scholarly enquiry is determined to link education with capacity building and skill development by empowering
its stakeholders particularly students for facing challenges of global world. The Skill Development and Capacity Building Cell of the University
has been established with a view to identifying the skills required and enhancing the capacity at individual level by providing institutional support
and facilitation for empowering the partners for better tomorrow.
To help the students identify their potential/strengths
To make the students aware of the career avenues available in different disciplines
To facilitate the students identify the skills required for a particular career option
To facilitate the students hone some basic and fundamental skills
To facilitate the students hone some specific skills and interpersonal skills
To devise short term modular courses for improving basic and specific skills
To provide the students a platform for their holistic personality development
To make the students prepared for competing for various employable opportunities
To sensitise the students towards socio-cultural, political, women and environmental issues of national and international importance
To empower the students with value and ethics driven education
Programmes and Activities
An Inaugural Seminar on “Empowering the Partners: The Next Step” was conducted on 08.02.2012 and Cell was formally inaugurated.
Mr. Subhash Jagota, a Corporate Trainer & Management Consultant from Delhi was the guest speaker on the occasion. The genesis of this seminar
can be found when in Sept., 2010, there was a formal launch of the“Empowerment and Capacity Building Initiative” to start a four weeks short
duration programme on Proficiency Development including honing the skills required to be presentable in what is termed as a personality coupled
with effective communication for achieving the personal and professional goals of the students and learners.
A modular course structure on Communicative English and Dialogue Building has been designed by the Cell for the students for
developing their basic communicative proficiency and skills in English communication and honing their interpersonal skills.
A two month (from March, 2012 to April, 2012) interactive session based programme was conducted by the faculty for the
purpose of skill impartation and facilitation for the students to build their capacities to face the current challenges.
In this programme the following topics were covered by the Cell :
Identifying your strengths; Career options for Management/Commerce/Economics/Education; Harnessing Conceptual Skills (Indian Political System;
Indian Financial System; Basics of Indian Constitution; Fundamentals of Indian Economy); Cultural Competency
in Multicultural Society; Harnessing reading skills (Book, Text, Article, News Paper); Harnessing speaking skills (Lecturette, Extempore speech);
Correct you pronunciation (Pronouncing Some commonly used words, Pronouncing Some difficult words); Listening Skills; Harnessing writing skills; Tenses
and sentence structure; Basic grammar; Drafting skills (Letter, Report etc.); Writing skills( e.g. Writing an article, Writing a report etc.);
Presentation skills (Essentials of effective PPT, How to make powerful PPT?); Group Discussion skills (Mock GD etc.); Interview skills (Preparing for job
interview, Essentials of good interview (Interview skills, Mock interview etc.)
Modus Operandi: The sessions were interactive and responses were generated by involving the students in extempore exercises.
Experts from various faculties of the University and outside were invited to share their expertise with the students enrolled for the Programme.
